When you visit a great Cedar Park tire shop, you're going to see many tires everywhere - which can make it difficult to find the ones you need. If you come to the Wheel & Tire Superstore, we have highly experienced staff who are always here to help you find the best tires for your vehicle. But what if you're looking to shop for yourself?
There are a few key considerations you should be focusing on, when selecting new tires. This helps you quickly narrow down your search and makes it far easier to pick the right set.
First, you need to have the basics, such as the size of your rims and the suggested size of your tires. This will all be covered in your owner's manual. It's a good idea to make sure you have it with you, when you're at a Cedar Park tire shop.
In a pinch, though, the sidewall information on your current tires should be good enough. Just match up the sizing and inflation numbers and you should be OK.
Tires tend to specialize for three types of driving: city driving, highway driving, and offroad.
If you’re driving in the city, the most important factor is typically the braking distance. Traffic will start and stop often, and you need to be able to rely on your tires to stop you quickly no matter the situation. City driving is also hard on tires, so you will probably want higher-quality tires which will last longer.
If you're spending most of your time on the highway, focus on comfort and handling. You want minimal vibrations, and to know you'll always be able to safely take curves even at 60+ MPH.
For offroad driving or on unpaved country roads, it's all about traction and durability. Offroad tires are built much stronger than other types.
Weather-focused tires come in three types: Summer, winter, and all-year.
Summer and winter tires are built to work best in hot and cold weather, respectively, and must not be run in the opposite season. Summer tires will crack in sub-freezing temperatures, while winter tires will literally melt in summer heat. All-year tires try to strike a balance between the two, but typically struggle at both temperature extremes.
Here in Texas, with our blazing summers, we typically suggest drivers run on summer tires around 8-9 months out of the year, then switch to either all-year or winter tires when it gets cooler. Just remember to put your summer tires back on in the spring! The Wheel & Tire Superstore is one of the best tire shops in Cedar Park, with an extensive selection of tires and a highly-experienced staff who's always here to help. We want to see all our customers running on the best possible tires for their vehicle and needs.
