If it feels like your truck's suspension isn't up to task, or you don't have enough ground clearance, it's time to look into suspension lift kits and leveling kits. These your truck higher off the ground, which can improve your ride in several ways:
There are remarkably few downsides, especially if you're in a situation - such as doing offroad hauling - where the lifted suspension will help in your work. This is an upgrade you can install and feel good about.
What's the difference?
Leveling Kits are specifically for lifting your truck's front suspension, so that the nose sits level with the tail, rather than being lowered. This typically means raising it 1-2". Leveling kits are less expensive to purchase and install.
However, be aware that if you haul a lot of heavy loads, this could result in your tail dragging after the leveling kit is installed. In these cases, you'd be better off looking at a full lift kit.
Lift Kits raise the suspension for both the front and rear axles, lifting up the entire truck. They typically lift the nose a bit more than the tail, so there's still a leveling effect as well. This brings the most benefit if you need better ground clearance, and also eliminates tail-dragging when you haul heavy loads.
Important Considerations
Any major upgrade will alter the ride of your truck. What should you consider beforehand?
Are you installing the suspension lift kit merely for looks, or are you doing it to improve the performance of your truck? Some lift kits are "highway only," so be sure to choose an offroad-ready solution if you need to work.
Before installing lifts, be sure to think about the places you typically drive. Will any of them be too low for your new height, such as a low-ceiling garage? Be sure to factor in the height of larger tires, if you want those as well.
Not all stock truck shocks will work well with a lift kit. We tend to recommend installing new shocks along with the kit, to result in the smoothest overall ride.
